Surveying
Association Staff Surveyors are available for advice on technical problems as well as for the survey of damages. Vessels are surveyed annually in order to maintain a history file on each vessel.

Survey Agencies may be used for straightforward reports but Staff Surveyors also travel to any ports where vessels are in difficulty. In emergency, especially foreign ports, the Association employs suitably qualified local Surveyors.

Directors
The Board of Directors of the Association is drawn from Fishermen, Fishsalesmen, and other industry figures. Board meetings are held throughout the year at the Head Office in Buckie.

Association
The Association is run as a Mutual with profits being allocated to Members' Reserve Accounts in proportion to the nett hull premium paid for each vessel each year.

Policies
Each Policy issued by the Association has a renewal date of 1st January. Proposal Forms are issued every year for all vessels and show current values, renewal premiums and excesses

No Claim Bonuses are awarded to Members whose vessels have completed a calendar year free of claim. This is awarded on renewal of the cover.

The Scottish Boatowners Mutual Insurance Association was founded in 1918 by local fishermen in the area of Buckie, Scotland. The Members of the Association are the owners of the Vessels insured.
